The Sarasota Police Department is proud and honored to announce the promotion of two individuals within our department. On Friday, May 31, 2013, the Sarasota Police Department announced a Lieutenant and Sergeant have taken on the role and title of Captain. Captain Pat Robinson and Captain Corinne Stannish have a combined 38 years of service with the Sarasota Police Department. Captain Stannish is also the first female captain in the history of the Sarasota Police Department.
Captain Stannish is a 25 veteran of the department and will be the Captain of the Support Services Division. She started with the Sarasota Police Department on May 13, 1988. Born in Chicago, Stannish moved to Sarasota in 1978. She holds a Bachelors Degree of Science from the University of South Florida in Sarasota. She also attended SPI (Southern Police Institute) focusing on Command Officer Development. Captain Stannish has served in our patrol division, inspections and planning along with our community policing unit. She’s served as a Detective in crimes against children and was a Sergeant over the Patrol Division.
Captain Stannish is married with three children and enjoys camping, kayaking, hiking and spending time with her family. Law enforcement also runs in the Stannish family. Her father and grandfather are retired from the Chicago Police Department. Her cousin is currently a Sergeant with the Chicago Police Department.
Captain Pat Robinson is a 13 year veteran of the department and will be the Captain of the Patrol Division. Captain Robinson started with the Sarasota Police Department on November 15, 2000. A Sarasota native, Captain Robinson graduated from Riverview High School where he played football. His athletic skills landed him a scholarship to play football at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Captain Robinson has served in our patrol division and our neighborhood enforcement team. He’s also served as a Detective and Sergeant in crimes again property and crimes against persons.
Captain Robinson is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from St. Leo University. He has a 3 year-old son and is married. Sarasota roots run deep for Captain Robinson, his father just retired from Sarasota High School where he taught students art for the last 27 years.
Chief Bernadette DiPino added “I’m proud to promote both individuals. They both show excellent leadership, communication and dedication to the City of Sarasota and to the Sarasota Police Department.” Chief DiPino also added “Promoting Corinne Stannish to the position of Captain is history being made in the Sarasota Police Department with the first female officer to hold that position. I’m excited and honored to be a part of that.”
