Sarasota Police identify and apprehend suspect in Sunday afternoon shooting

The Sarasota Police Department announces the arrest of Jeremy Shannon, 42, of Sarasota, for the murder of a 56-year-old Sarasota man.

On Sunday, September 22, 2024, shortly after 4:30 p.m., Sarasota Police officers responded to a report of gunshots near the 1800 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Way. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying on the ground, unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds. Sarasota County Fire Rescue paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Sarasota Police Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians launched an immediate investigation. Throughout the night, several witness interviews were conducted, surveillance footage was extensively reviewed, and the crime scene was processed for forensic evidence.

Early this morning, detectives identified Jeremy Shannon as the suspect and began their search to apprehend him. Detectives located Shannon at an apartment complex in Ellenton. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Shannon was taken into custody without incident.

Shannon is currently in the custody of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office and is being interviewed by Sarasota Police detectives.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
