Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is under the command of Captain Robert Armstrong, with Lieutenant Jamie Adams as the Assistant Commander and Sergeant Dustin Luciano serving as the Administrative Sergeant.

The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Sarasota Police Department. With four rotating shifts covering ten work zones, officers provide police services within the City of Sarasota 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Patrol officers are the first to arrive on-scene at critical incidents occurring in the City of Sarasota. They routinely detect and deter crimes, render lifesaving and first-aid care on scene, collect evidence, conduct crash investigations, and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.  In addition, they attend numerous community outreach events and often collaborate with the Department’s other divisions.

Following the Department’s community policing philosophy, the Patrol Division is committed to fostering partnerships and providing the highest standard of professional police services within the City of Sarasota. Maintaining a safe and welcoming City that all residents can proudly call “home,” and ensuring our visitors are well informed and return year after year is our goal.

This division also oversees specialized units such as the Traffic Unit, Marine Patrol Unit, Homeless Outreach Team, Community Relations Unit, Crime Prevention and the Citizen Volunteer Program. In addition, this division oversees the department’s Honor Guard, which is comprised of dedicated officers who represent the Department at official parades, ceremonies, funerals, presentations and various other approved functions for the community.
