The Professional Standards Division is comprised of the Internal Affairs and Complaints Section, Training Unit, Accreditation Unit, and Background Investigations and Recruiting. 

Accreditation is the certification by an independent reviewing authority, the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation, which determines that an entity has met specific requirements and prescribed standards.  The Sarasota Police Department has held full accreditation status since 2017.
