In May of 2021, the Sarasota Police Department implemented the Body Worn Camera program as a commitment to the community to promote maximum transparency and accountability. Officers use these cameras daily in response to calls for service and self-initiated activity. This recorded contact with citizens and evidence gathering is then uploaded to a secure storage at the end of every shift.   

The retention of these videos is based off the Florida General Records Schedule (GS2) established standards.
