Sarasota Police Searching for Suspect Wanted on Murder Charges in Connection to Shooting
An arrest warrant for a charge of Murder has been issued for Johnny D. Evans, 22, last known address of 1550 North Lockwood Ridge Road, Sarasota. Two photos of Evans are attached. Evans is 6’1” and 170lbs and is considered armed and dangerous.

Robert L. Taylor KOPS Camp Canceled – Final Basketball Event Rescheduled for February
Due to the increase of COVID cases, the Kids and Officers Promoting Solidarity (KOPS) event scheduled for Wednesday, January 5, 2022, has been canceled out of an abundance of caution. The final event is being postponed until Friday, February 11, 2022.

Sarasota woman arrested and facing charges of murder in connection to New Year’s Day shooting
Sarasota Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that happened in the 1400 block of Main Street, Sarasota, just before 1:45 a.m. on January 1, 2022. Latoya Johnson, 37, has been arrested & is facing charges of Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Tampa man arrested and facing charges of Attempted Murder & Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
Geno T. Jackson, 21, of Tampa, has been arrested by Sarasota Police officers and is facing charges of Attempted Murder and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon after a shooting that happened Sunday morning.

Sarasota Doctor Arrested & Facing Charges of Prescription and Insurance Fraud
Michael Dattoli, 64, of Anna Maria, has been arrested and is facing multiple charges of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud, criminal use of personal identification information, and false and fraudulent insurance claims. Dattoli was arrested by Sarasota Police officers on December 16, 2021.

14-Year-Old Arrested in Connection to Death of 14-Year-Old
Davion King, 14, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of Murder, a felony, in connection to the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy Friday night. Per F.S.S. 985.04 (2) (a) 1., information about juveniles charged with felonies is public record.

Brennan Wakey, 25, of Port Charlotte, has been arrested and is facing charges of Murder in connection to the death of a man that happened at 950 University Parkway, Sarasota, on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

Sarasota Man Sentenced to Two Consecutive Life Sentences in Connection to 2015 Homicide
Ronald Howard, who was found guilty of two counts of 2nd Degree Murder with a Firearm in connection to a 2015 case, was sentenced to two consecutive life sentences on December 3, 2021.

The Sarasota Police Department is partnering with the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex (RLTCC) and the Gulf Coast Lions, a national pro basketball league, for K.O.P.S. (Kids and Officers Promoting Solidarity). Registration is now open for youth ages 12 to 16.

Sarasota Man Arrested on Charges of Capital Sexual Battery & Possession of Child Pornography
Randall Haus, 56, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing charges of Capital Sexual Battery on a Victim under 12-years-old and four counts of Possession of Child Pornography. Haus is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail.

Road Closures for Sarasota Holiday Parade – Saturday, December 4, 2021
The 25th annual Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 7 p.m. The parade will begin at Main Street and U.S. 301 in downtown Sarasota. The parade will end at J.D. Hamel Park at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.

Bradenton man arrested and facing charges of Vehicular Homicide & Manslaughter following June 2021 crash
Jordan Schopfer, 30, of Bradenton, has been arrested in Manatee County by the United States Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force in connection to a deadly crash that happened in June 2021 in the City of Sarasota. The crash was investigated by the Sarasota Police Department.

White Cane Awareness Day is celebrated annually on October 15th. The day was established in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson to raise awareness for those who are visually impaired and carry a white cane. It is why the Sarasota Police Department is taking part in White Cane Awareness Day.
