High Visibility Enforcement in the City of Sarasota to Improve Pedestrian & Bicyclist Safety
The Sarasota Police Department is again implementing a High Visibility Enforcement program to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety. The City of Sarasota ranks in the top 25 cities in the state of Florida for traffic crashes resulting in serious and fatal injuries to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Sarasota Police Department Shares Back to School Safety Reminders
Students will head back to class in the City of Sarasota on Wednesday, August 10, 2022. As classes resume, the Sarasota Police Department wants to remind drivers there is a zero-tolerance policy for speeding in school zones and passing school buses that have stop signs extended.

Students in Sarasota return to school on August 10, 2022. The Sarasota Police Department, in partnership with the community, wants to ‘Pack the Patrol Car’ with new school supplies for the upcoming school year for the fifth year in a row before students head back to class.

Sarasota Police Execute Search Warrant; Leads to Arrests and Seizure of Illegal Narcotics
The Sarasota Police Department executed a search warrant at an apartment at 4900 North Tamiami Trail, Unit 157, Sarasota, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 4:30 a.m. This is after members of the Probation and Parole conducted a probation search of the residence and found several items of contraband.

Sarasota Man Arrested by U.S. Marshals Florida/Caribbean Regional Task Force
John Pyle, 65 of Sarasota, was arrested in Mexico over the weekend. He was arrested by the Sarasota Police Department in 2016 on charges of child pornography and failed to show up for court in 2017. On June 11, 2022, Pyle was booked into the Miami Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Center.

Second Search Warrant at Same Home Leads to Arrests & Seizures of Illegal Narcotics
The Sarasota Police Department executed a search warrant at a home at 1331 15th Street, Sarasota on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, just after 7 a.m. This is the second time a search warrant has been executed at this home in the last several months.

Two Homicide Cases Closed by Sarasota Police Department Following Death of Suspect
William Devonshire, 52, a suspect in two homicides in the City of Sarasota from earlier this year, died over the weekend at the Sarasota County Jail. The Sarasota Police Department will now close the homicide case that happened in February 2022 and the homicide case that happened in March 2022.

Memorial Day Parade Road Closures and Holiday Safety Reminders
The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022, beginning at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Osprey Avenue in Sarasota. There will be several tow-away zones and street closure notices that will be in place on Monday.

Sarasota Police Investigating Missing Swimmer Off South Lido Beach Park
Sarasota Police are investigating a missing person after a woman went into the water with a friend off of South Lido between 7:30 p.m and 8 p.m on May 21, 2022. The friend made it back to shore but the woman did not return to shore. On May 22, 2022, the missing woman's body was recovered.

The Sarasota Police Department has welcomed two new K-9s. K-9 Bruin and K-9 Brody recently completed more than 600 hours of training and are both currently assigned to the Sarasota Police Department Patrol Division.

The Sarasota Police Department is investigating two shooting incidents that happened on Thursday, May 5, 2022, between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. It’s unknown at this time if the two shootings are connected. An arrest has been made in one of the incidents.

Fort Myers Woman Arrested and Facing Charges of False Imprisonment
Sarasota Police officers arrested Dina Wilson, 61, of Fort Myers, after witnesses said she pointed a gun at a 16-year-old girl and drove her to an area business just before 10 p.m. on May 4, 2022. Wilson is being held at the Sarasota County Jail and is facing charges of False Imprisonment.
