Two Sarasota Police Lieutenants Promoted to the rank of Captain
Sarasota Police Chief Jim Rieser announced the promotion of Lieutenant Scott Mayforth and Lieutenant Ken Rainey to the rank of Captain. Captain Mayforth will serve as the Commander of the Patrol Division and Captain Rainey will serve as the Commander of the Professional Standards Division.

Sarasota Police Captain Rex Troche Promoted to Deputy Chief
Sarasota Police Chief James Rieser announced today the promotion of Captain Rex Troche to Deputy Chief. With nearly 20 years of service to the city of Sarasota, Deputy Chief Troche was promoted after Pat Robinson accepted a position as Deputy City Manager with the city of Sarasota.

High Visibility Enforcement Continues in the City of Sarasota to Improve Pedestrian & Bicycle Safety
The Sarasota Police Department is continuing to implement a High Visibility Enforcement (HVE) program to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety throughout the city of Sarasota. Since launching the program in August 2020, the Sarasota Police Department has dedicated more than 210 hours to HVE.

The Sarasota Police Department is continuing an investigation into an officer-involved shooting that happened Saturday, February 6, 2021, in the 2400 block of Bay Street, Sarasota. The officer involved was not hurt. This case remains an active and ongoing investigation.

Palmetto man arrested by Sarasota Police detectives in connection to 2015 sexual battery
Clifton Bean, 45, of 52nd Avenue East, Palmetto, has been arrested and is facing two charges of sexual battery on a victim over 12 in connection to a 2015 case. Bean was arrested by the Sarasota Police Department and the United States Marshals Service Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Jaymes Smith, 29, of North Lockwood Ridge Road #28, Sarasota, is facing charges of attempted murder in connection to a shooting that happened on August 14, 2020. Smith was served with the additional charges on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.
