Former assisted living facility nurse arrested after families report fraudulent credit card use
Yolanda Taite, 29, of Tallevast, has been arrested and is facing charges of exploitation of the elderly and grand theft from a person over 65 years or older after family members reported fraudulent credit card use of their family members living at an assisted living home in the City of Sarasota

Bradenton man sentenced to 22 years in prison following death of child in 2017
Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo, 28, of Bradenton, was sentenced to 22 years in prison with credit for time served followed by five (5) years probation with special conditions by Judge Charles Roberts on July 13, 2020. Uvo-Kk Ayoma Uvo was found guilty by a jury in March 2020 after the death of a child in 2017.

Two men arrested in Sarasota after caught climbing on construction crane
Thomas D. Jefferson, 18, of Sarasota, and Javier Vargas, 25, of Tampa were arrested just before 1 a.m. on July 1, 2020, after they were found climbing a construction crane in the 600 block of Gulfstream Avenue, Sarasota.

Three Sarasota Police officers test positive for COVID-19
Three sworn patrol officers with the Sarasota Police Department have tested positive for COVID-19. These are the first three positive cases for the agency. All three officers are at home on quarantine.

Out of an abundance of caution for journalists & members of our agency, the news conference scheduled for today is being postponed. A protest has been scheduled for the same time outside Headquarters. A future news conference will be scheduled after the second Community Action Team is in place.

On June 1, 2020, the Sarasota Police Department was tagged in a social media post showing a portion of a video with our Officers arresting an individual on May 18, 2020. After viewing the video, Chief DiPino immediately initiated a formal Internal Affairs investigation.

Two men arrested in connection to December 2019 homicide
Sirod D. Cephus, 23, of North Osprey Avenue, Sarasota, and Deshaunte J. Delancy, 27, of 18th Street West, Bradenton, have been arrested and are facing charges of murder and armed robbery in connection to a December 2019 homicide in the City of Sarasota.

Bradenton woman arrested & facing more than 260 charges related to prescription fraud
Kelly A. Gaffney, 49, of Bradenton, has been arrested and is facing 241 felony charges and 26 misdemeanor charges including trafficking in morphine, trafficking in oxycodone, criminal use of personal identification and possession of prescription blanks.

Couple arrested & facing felony charges; Loaded firearm found in stroller
A couple has been arrested in Sarasota after an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The weapon, a fully loaded 9mm handgun, was found by Sarasota Police officers under the couple’s stroller where their infant child was sitting.
