Sarasota Police hosting 'Tweet from the Beat' Foot Patrol Edition
The Sarasota Police Department will take social media followers on another "virtual ride-along." Thursday, January 16, 2020 beginning at 9 a.m., Twitter users can virtually "ride along" for another Tweet from the Beat' with Patrol Officers during a special edition of the virtual ride-along program.

Additional Charges for Henry Lee Porter – Detectives Continue to Ask for Information
Henry Lee Porter, 72, of Sarasota, has been charged with an additional count of Sexual Battery with a Child under 12. This is the second charge. Porter was arrested on January 2, 2020 and has remained in the Sarasota County Jail. The second charge was given to Porter on January 10, 2020.

UPDATE: Arrest Made in December Homicide
Sirod D. Cephus, 23, of North Osprey Avenue, Sarasota, and Deshaunte J. Delancy, 27, of 18th Street West, Bradenton, have been arrested and are facing charges of murder and armed robbery in connection to a December 2019 homicide in the City of Sarasota.

Brother and sister arrested and facing charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder in connection to shooting
James Phillips, 17, of Sarasota, and Rajanique Graves, 23, of Sarasota, have both been arrested in connection to a shooting that happened on December 22, 2019 at approximately 3:15 p.m. near the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Coconut Avenue, Sarasota.

Fatal crash on Longboat Key under investigation
The Sarasota Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that happened on Longboat Key on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at approximately 6 p.m. The Sarasota Police Department has a memorandum of understanding with the Town of Longboat Key to assist with serious or fatal crashes.

Sarasota Police Conducting Death Investigation
Sarasota Police officers are conducting a death investigation. This afternoon, Saturday, December 7, 2019, at approximately 1:45 p.m., a body of an adult male, believed to be in his 40’s, was found by boaters in the water several hundred yards off the Sarasota Yacht Club.

Road Closures for Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade – Saturday, December 7, 2019
The 24th annual Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 7 p.m. The parade will begin at Main Street and U.S. 301 in downtown Sarasota. The parade will end at J.D. Hamel Park at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.

The Sarasota Police Department wants to remind citizens about a phone scam that is happening where a caller claims to be a member of the Sarasota Police Department soliciting for donations. The caller is also claiming that they have a warrant for the person who answered the phone.

Sarasota Police Officers are investigating a shooting that happened just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2019, near the area of 30th Street and North Washington Boulevard (US 301). When Officers arrived, they found one person with non-life-threatening injuries.

Duo arrested for burglaries; Stolen bulldog recovered & reunited with owner in California
Tracie Eileen Defee, 52, of California, and Michael Paine, 48, of Sarasota, have been arrested and are facing multiple felony charges following a burglary spree in the Lido Key area of the city of Sarasota in October 2019. A bulldog, named Maggie, was also with the duo during the burglaries.
