Brookside Middle School Teacher Arrested for Lewd & Lascivious Conduct
Maxwell Guss, 34, of Bradenton, was arrested on Monday afternoon on two (2) counts of Lewd and Lascivious Conduct by a Person Over 18. Guss has been on administrative leave from Brookside Middle School where he was a business teacher. Detectives believe there may be additional victims.

Vehicle crashes into home overnight – No injuries, minor damage to home, driver arrested
Lousner Silencieux, 37, of Sarasota has been arrested and is facing multiple charges following a hit and run crash where a vehicle hit a home in the 1400 block of Myrtle Street in Sarasota Thursday night.

Teenager arrested in connection to Sunday night shooting
Darion Lee, 16, of Sarasota, has been arrested and is facing two charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, felony charges, in connection to a shooting that happened Sunday, November 10, 2019 near the intersection of Carver Street and Orange Avenue in the City of Sarasota.

Last week, Chief Bernadette DiPino traveled to the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) training conference in Chicago. While attending the conference, Sarasota Police Department Legal Advisor Joe Polzak accepted the IACP Chief David Cameron Leadership in Environmental Crimes Award.

Road Closures for Veterans Day Parade – Monday, November 11, 2019
The City of Sarasota, in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will co-host the annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 10 a.m. in downtown Sarasota. There will be several road closures and vehicle tow away zones for the parade.

Operation SURGE Results in 95 Arrests
Chief Bernadette DiPino, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), United States Attorney’s Office and the Florida State Attorney’s Office of the 12th Judicial Circuit announced the arrest of 95 individuals in Operation SURGE during a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Sarasota Police Investigating Suspicious Death - Bradenton Man Charged with Murder
Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department have arrested Juan Jose Esparza, 20, of Bradenton. He’s being charged with murder, armed burglary and additional charges in connection of a death over the weekend. Esparza is being held at the Sarasota County Jail.

Sarasota Police Taking Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs on Saturday, October 26, 2019
On Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Sarasota Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public another opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Lane closures for First Watch 5K on Saturday & First Watch Half Marathon, Relay and 10K on Sunday
The inaugural First Watch Sarasota 5K will be held Saturday, October 19, 2019. The 14th Annual First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon, Relay and 10K will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019. Due to the race participants sharing the roadway along the race route, there will be temporary lane closures.

Two Skimming Devices Found at Gas Station in the City of Sarasota
On Wednesday, September 25, 2019, two suspected skimming devices were found at Citgo, 3580 Fruitville Road, Sarasota. One skimming device was found on pump #1 and one skimming device was found on pump #3. Both devices were removed and collected as evidence.
